The Development Office were delighted and very grateful to receive a most unusual gift recently from Tim Jackson-Stops, a former Stowe parent, father of Billy Jackson-Stops (Chatham 08), whose family business was entrusted with the auction and sale of the Ducal Estate in the early 1920s – soon after which, of course, the foundation of the School took place in 1923.
In particular, we were honoured to receive 12 original copies of the 1922 sale catalogue, which Mr Jackson-Stops has asked should be sold to interested members of the Stowe community, in aid of Change 100.
The catalogues – each individually numbered – contain a wealth of fascinating insight into the contents of Stowe House and its estate at the beginning of the last century.
The price we would ask for each copy is £350 (plus any additional sum that you might like to add as a further contribution to our Change 100 mission). If you would be interesting in acquiring one of the catalogues, please get in touch as soon as you are able with Sarah Smith in the Development Office on Sarah.smith@stowe.co.uk and she will be delighted to make contact.
