As with most other OS activities, it has been a tough year and for OS global events it has been no different. Global OS is a new area of responsibility on the OS Committee and we have started to make some progress ahead of hopefully making a fitting noise to celebrate our centenary in 2023 in the various different countries around the world.
The OS network details, held by the OS Society, were used by reps to check on the older and more vulnerable Old Stoics in their respective countries during the first lockdown, which was brilliant thing to be able to do.
We have started a programme of Zoom calls to catch up with individual reps and will continue to roll this out over the coming year. Alexander Robertson (Walpole 11) is taking over the responsibility of Global OS events this year and he will be looking to strengthen the global reps list, so please do volunteer if you can. It makes a real difference to Old Stoics moving to new countries to know that there is a welcoming OS network already in place. Also, please do use the excellent Stowe Connect for global connections for OS’s moving abroad – or even just visiting.
I would encourage global reps to think of ways of arranging events, no matter how small, to keep up the momentum of the global network. At the same time, please do think about what some of the more OS heavy countries can ‘officially’ do for the build-up to 2023. Australia have already volunteered to host an event and so has Dubai – let’s see what other countries will join them.
Stay safe wherever you are in the world.
