The inaugural Old Stoic Cycling Club ride took place on Old Stoic Day, Saturday 11 September 2021.
After bacon butties, coffee and photos, 16 of us, spanning a fifty-year age range, set off from the North Front and headed south through Buckinghamshire, heading for Wotton Underwood.
The weather was fine and the outward journey went pretty smoothly, despite some very poor road surfaces and one puncture.
In Wotton, we visited the beautiful church and the mortuary chapel of the Grenville family, which is the final resting place of two of the Dukes of Buckingham and Chandos.
We then moved on up the hill to The Pheasant in Brill for a relaxed lunch, washed down with a refreshing drink or two. It was warm and sunny enough for us to sit outside. The conversation and beer flowed, giving us all an opportunity to get to know each other a little better.
For the return loop back to Stowe via Otmoor, we split into a faster and slower group, with everyone making it back after 50 miles in time for tea in the Marble Saloon.
Many thanks to all those who joined the ride. We look forward to welcoming more Old Stoics, parents, staff and friends to the next outing sometime in 2022.
