Stowe Templars

The 2022 season was one of gentle revolution for the Stowe Templars in that we were delighted to welcome several of the successful previous year’s 1st Xl who had played with so much distinction for the School. We were also fortunate in being able to play a full fixture list with no games called off for inclement weather and most games played in glorious sunshine.

Our youth policy, combined with the presence of the more experienced heads, meant we had a more successful than usual season, with (outside of the Cricketer Cup) eight wins, two losses and one draw. The results-led season was helped by the (mostly) very positive approaches by our opposition match managers, for which we are very grateful. It just makes for more enjoyable games. There were a few exceptions when we ended up chasing modest scores and ended up winning the games against The Royal Household, Hurlingham and the Hampshire Hogs by 10 wickets, not a statistic normally encountered in club cricket.

The only disappointment was that, as per policy, we fielded a young side against Old Cliftonians in the Cricketers Cup and came up short. However, the experience gained will stand us in good stead in future years. This was mitigated by the success of the Cricket Week, where a clean sweep was only prevented by a long-awaited and much deserved first victory over us by The Samurai.

Off the field, we were able to hold our pre-season supper at The Beaufort House once more (COVID having caused cancellations the previous two years), which was again hugely enjoyable, and the nets through March and April at Lord’s were well supported.

We will continue to encourage the recent leavers to join us to help drive the club forward alongside the senior players and if you would like to get in touch with us do please contact either:
