With the OS Office as busy as ever, our network of OS Global Representatives continued to host a number of events overseas. We encourage as many events as possible to happen each year and aim to bring together Old Stoics who live in the same country.
The first gathering of 2019 was held on Monday 18 March, our Old Stoic Representative for Dubai, James Bernard (Lyttelton 90), very kindly hosted a Drinks Reception at The Scene, Dubai Marina.
A small group of Old Stoics gathered across a range of year groups and, as always, the evening was most enjoyable and a great success. Our thanks go to James for continuing to host for us in Dubai.
On Tuesday 4 June, the Head, Dr Anthony Wallersteiner hosted a Drinks Party for Old Stoics, Parents and Friends of Stowe at The China Club in Bank Street, Hong Kong. With a significant Stowe Community located in the area, it was an excellent opportunity for other Old Stoics and parents to gather and hear from the Headmaster about the latest news and progress at the School.
As we moved into autumn, American Friends of Stowe, held a Cocktail Party at the Racquet and Tennis Club on Park Avenue, with the Head as Guest of honour. The evening gathered many Old Stoics and Parents to see Jamie Niven, son of David Niven (Chandos/Grafton 28) accept the Worthies Award on his father’s behalf.
I am sure you know, 2023 will mark Stowe’s Centenary. The School and the Old Stoic Society are making exciting plans to celebrate the occasion. I am pleased to report that we formed a working group of Old Stoics to discuss how best to celebrate.
With this in mind, over the next three years, plans are in place to hold a number of overseas events in countries where there is a high population of Old Stoics.
Luke Chauveau (Cobham 87), is now the Vice-Chairman of the Old Stoic Society and has kindly agreed to help with the global OS network, alongside the OS Society Office. Luke has travelled extensively over the years with his profession and so, he is ideal to take on this role. Watch this space for further details of gatherings planned for the forthcoming years.
We offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to our OS Reps around the globe. Without their support and assistance, we would be unable to hold these wonderful occasions.
If you are living overseas and would like to become an OS Representative or indeed, would be interested in hosting an Old Stoic gathering, please do get in contact with us on 01280 818349 or oldstoic@stowe.co.uk
