Julian writes, “After a career as a geophysicist and now retired, I seem to be putting the forestry and carpentry skills I learnt at Stowe to good use. Having inherited my grandparents’ small holding a few years ago, there’s been a lot of woods clearance and fence repairs, which I’ve finally been able to do whilst under lockdown. This has brought back memories of burning out tree stumps with Mr Clarke around the Stowe grounds. I’ve also taken up bee keeping and have been building my own horizontal hives. This uses the woodwork skills acquired as hives have precise internal dimensions.”
