Tim writes, “I don’t remember Stowe Church being open in my day but it is open now. It seems to have had a chequered history of being both loved and shunned by the various generations occupying ‘the big house’. There is evidence of medieval graffiti on the stonework. These are prayerful marks left by the ordinary folk, whereas the great and the good (sometimes not so good), could afford more elaborate decorations by which they wished to be remembered.”
