“I‘m a chartered mechanical engineer. I have spent most of my professional life in the UK water industry (after a few years overseas) with Southern Water, first in mechanical and then process design. Later, I ran a number of departments such as R&D, regional operations and waste management and gained an MBA from Bradford. I was, for many years, one of the leading experts on sewage sludge processes and operation. I retired last year after several years in senior management – my last position was wastewater programme sponsor. I am married to Professor Anne Robertson (Roehampton) and we have two grown up children. I‘m the Chair of the professional review committee at IMechE and have recently started an engineering consultancy business.”
