Mr Bob Durrant (Walpole 65)

30 August 1947 – 27 January 2022

Bob was one of the Old Stoic Golfing Society‘s most distinguished golfers. He played in the England Youth team from 1967–69 and the England team in 1969. He beat Michael Bonallack in a play-off for the Golf Illustrated Gold Vase in 1967, was three times winner of the Bedfordfordshire County Championship when he played at Dunstable Downs and was Hertfordshire County Champion in 1974, 1976 and 1978, he lost in the 1975 final to a young Nick Faldo. He won the Hertfordshire County Foursomes in 1975 and 1977.

Needless to say, he was a prolific winner of OSGS trophies in six decades but undoubtedly his greatest contribution to the Society was playing in 44 Halford Hewitts between 1966 and 2012. He is the only Old Stoic to have played in more than 100 Halford Hewitt matches (107), competing in four finals including Stowe‘s winning years of 1979 and 1988. He formed successful pairings over the years with Lorne Williamson, David Wright, Nigel Stern, Peter Cooper, Bruce Marshall-Andrew, Greg Choyce, Martyn Palmer and Rob Samuel.

Bob was a very kind-hearted, unassuming gentleman and many in the Society will have great memories of fun times together.
