Kloof Corner is a scramble on Table Mountain that is fleetingly mentioned in John Buchan’s ‘Greenmantle’. Although chains now ease one through the more difficult bits, any midriff weight gain is immediately picked up by the delightfully imperial 11-inch crack. When not exploring Table Mountain’s nooks and crannies, James still manages a freezer store racking company while coping with the various challenges presented by Covid-19, steel and electricity shortages, strikes and civil unrest. As he says, dying of boredom isn’t an option in South Africa.
