John writes, “We had to sell our beautiful property north of Toowoomba due to the cost of feeding stock through the long drought. Most of the cattle went to market but, sadly, some of the old girls had to go to slaughter. Happily the new owners bought our Hereford bull and our three Santa Gertrudis cows. I am in my eighteenth with the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) but am transitioning into retirement reluctantly. My latest project has involved monitoring mice movements across the Northern Grain Belt to improve the application and efficiency of baits to avoid further plagues.”
